Community Development

A major area of work is in the field of community development. Baba’s Foundation Incorporated (BFI) was started in 1988 with the goal to achieve poverty alleviation through grass roots development. Since then it has started 50 urban and rural cooperatives in the Mindanao Province of southern Philippines.

A total of 1500 families are involved in BFI’s development programs which include coop stores and micro-lending facilities to village farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs. On BFI’s demonstration farm, innovative techniques of intercropping, water conservation and integrated farming offer progressive alternatives for subsistence farmers. BFI’s pre-schools provide basic education to 200 children, including free education for 50 scholars from poor families.
