Sunrise School, Medan, Indonesia:
The Sunrise School in Medan, Sumatra Island, Indonesia began humbly in 1991
with 35 students. There are now a total of 1251 pre-school children who pass
through its school doors every day.
The school is our most advanced yet in SE Asia in evolving the Neohumanist
education model. The school’s Director, Dada Caetanyananda has developed a
growing series of books and didactic materials which he utilizes to make
learning fun and comprehensive for his little pupils.
The school is the most popular of its kind in Medan, since Dada also has a
two hour morning session exclusively dedicated to English tutoring for the
young children. Many of them show remarkable aptitude in picking up English
at the tender ages of 3-4 years, a testimony to the efficacy of Dada’s
teaching methods.

The original school premises added a massive three story building near the
city center early last year to accommodate the growing popularity of
Sunrise.
Neohumanist schools emphasize the holistic development of the child’s
personality. Amongst other things it uses creative games, fantasy stories,
and the development of sensory-motor and cognitive skills to awaken the
thirst for knowledge in the child. A specialty in Neohumanist schools is the
practice of simple yoga exercises to develop agility and grace in the child.
A simple technique of meditation is also taught to instill pure thoughts of
love for all beings in the child’s mind.
